hi! besides tons of mounds I have found really strange surface scars near Ganja, Azerbaijan. most weird for me are these placemarked strips of hundreds of square shaped holes without any acceptable explanation yet. all the other trench lines and holes all around can be scars of the long war, -also you can find many ghost towns in the country- but these? EDIT: these are ' excavated troop tent positions' / solved by OldNPIC'er (check thread below!) thanks! g square strips Azerbajan.kmz (1.13 KB)

The whole area appears to be a military training and maneuver area, with trenchworks, artillery revetments, driver training tracks, as well as some ammo storage bunkers along the base of the mountains to the west.

Yep, it's clear that the whole country is cursed by demons of war. I see the trenches and other signs of earthworks of military operations, but for this special type of 'scars' still I can find no reasonable explanation.
Thanks for your comment anyway!

If you are referring to the numerous small square scars, I'm pretty sure they are excavated troop tent positions. Sometimes, especially in open deployment areas troop tents are revetted to protect from strong winds and cold conditions. I've seen similar scaring at Russian bivouac areas.

Sometimes, especially in open deployment areas troop tents are revetted to protect from strong winds and cold conditions. ... Exactly that was what I have been asked. Have made some measurements and, well; that explains everything. Thank you for the answer! (edited original post) ... I've seen similar scaring at Russian bivouac areas. Hope one day you will get a feeling of looking 'em up again and post 'em here! It seems, you have skills defining warzone features on aerial imagery so you also might have some ideas about another oddity from the region. Thanks again and Best! g
