The Lockheed XFV-1 Salmon is a single-seater rear starter developed in the USA in the 1950s for interception hunting. A total of 32 flights were carried out before the project was discontinued in June 1955 with the discovery that rear starters were unsuitable.
The only airworthy prototype has survived and is in the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland.
There is a pocket-book on my bookshelf, published on the same year I was born, 1977 and I have it since I know my senses. I loved to thumb it as a child so the contours and paint deeply have been burnt into my cerebral cortex. ( :
