I have noted that Donetsk airport has absorbed substantial damage with most buildings badly damaged or destroyed as well as runways cratered. Have not seen any updated images for quite a while. Any new sightings- trenches, equipment for warfare, et al, would be of interest.

... Donetsk airport ... would be of interest. hi and welcome sworral! yep, military situation in eastern Europe and the Mid-East region are should to be most important points of interest as they definiately are, only these are not shared with the public. as kind of warfare it is okay has to be censored and any kind of data from it must be strictly filtrated, still very strange -also rather spooky- the abyss of media-silence yawning in our face from the direction of Russia. ... recent state of the Donetsk airport as detailed on wikipedia: (and as can be seen on most recent GE imagery date from 11/21/2016.) "Since the fighting, the ruins of the airport have been cleared of rubble, leaving behind the concrete shells of the new terminal building and adjoining parking garage. ... All civilian airline operations including Lufthansa, Air Berlin, Aeroflot and flydubai were suspended due to armed conflict in May 2014, and the airport's facilities were subsequently completely destroyed."Donetsk Airport Destroyed.kmz (839 B) sad time series of GE aerial images:1. intact buildings, airport in use, sun is shining, birds are singing (imagery date: 4/28/2014): FULL IMAGE2. slightly injured roof, damaged SW corner of main building, empty parking lot after First Battle of Donetsk Airport (imagery date: 7/24/2014): FULL IMAGE3. complete destruction after the Second Battle of Donetsk Airport (imagery date: 2/21/2015): FULL IMAGEthread will stay here so on for any news from anyone! 11 more sites, up to 43 placemarks attached to first post by this last edit. thanks! g -------- Related from board:Another airport doomed by Ravages of war (Saudi intervention in Yemen - Sanaa airport)

Hi syzygy, I like your work "Russian military intervention in Ukraine - trenches". It's very interesting and fascinating. I have never seen it before: - Distributed defense or battle sites. - Partly concealed positions prob. without sufficient cover. - Fortified positions for heavy combat equipment etc. Striking: The military operation sites showed all round security/defense within the defense area. Thanks! P.

... I like your work ... It's very interesting and fascinating. I have never seen it before... hi and welcome pitter! some 10+ years ago I downloaded Google Earth PC client and saw the world I have never seen it before and have found it so interesting and fascinating that still I could not stop -rather I would say 'shirk', than- 'work' with it. most of my various spottings on GE imagery were done whilst hunting for mounds around the globe, just as in this case, so it is can be called only as some byproduct of my main collecting work. as have browsed the area looking for signs of mound burials, I have just simultaneously placemarked these features of war too, stored them into another kmz folder, ending have dug up some related read. -glad, you have found this valuable! willingly, but with no pleasure...! g

Hi, Joseph and Welcome! I had to have help with this many years ago (Thanks, NormB) First save your place mark on your own hard drive and note where it is. Next go to the forum of choice and click on 'Create thread'. This brings up a page where you can enter your title and text dealing with the topic. Next, click on 'add attachment. Now find your file which you saved and double click on it. This will add the file to the box. Insert the file on your page of text and click 'Done'. Finally click 'Create thread'. Voila!

Heres this neat thing I found.... Hi and welcome Joseph! Well it seems the kmz file on GDrive includes all your GE My Places folder (with the default "Sightseeing" as well), but nevermind! Nice work, still some of my placemarked sites from OP (original post) are missing from your collection. (Feel free to add those too!) ... Very important would be to put all your data (lines, placemarks, polygons) in one kmz folder (right click on left panel GE/My Places - "Add new folder" and remove all the stuff into it. Name folder as you wish and right "click/save as" to your PC. Anytime later you can edit / update this single kmz folder file that much easier to handle than hundreds of individual items. In our Help Board you can find (pretty all) infos on how to make posts with attachments or how to add images or other media to your posts! ... Have a useful pastime around here at Google Earth Community Forums! Best, G
