On a somber note, here is a family taking a walk across the river from the Vorkuta Gulag ruins. It was one of the most brutal labor camps in Soviet Russia, providing coal for Stalin. Quite a few of the residents of the city are former prisoners, or descended from them. Gulag on GMaps. Go to the overhead view and you'll see how vast it was. A modern coal processing plant is visible, but the rest is abandoned.

Hey man! You have brought up some memories of my youth with that place from my town!

It was gonna be a big, "quality" disco (dance hall) some 15-20 years ago and I had the good chance to take part in some "quality"* parties around there.
