I'm sure you're right about police in the favelas. During the Rio Olympics, I spent a lot of time on SV there. Some favelas had SV, but most did not. There were two other shocking scenes I found, but not as much as the guy with the gun. 

Dakar, Senegal, a small collection of barber's signs. They are beloved by tourists in W. Africa and each one is delightful. These all face to the left, which is very common for silhouettes done by right handed painters.

These guys don't appear to need the services of Best Coif.



This one also claims to be Best.

Dhaka, Bangladesh...

ET, there are so many of those Blue Tarp Towns around L.A. I don't know about current imagery, but in the recent past, the Los Angeles River has had a lot of them along its length.

I've been saving these wavers, people around the world who seem mildly interested to extremely excited about the Street View car...

Battery Park near the end of Broadway, Manhattan, NYC. These were the only smiling people I saw in my lengthy tour of Manhattan, because they're tourists!
