Clue: I had found it while searching for a vantage point to get a view of a bridge which looked similar to the bridge in " An amazing view #3" by hhgygy. It is about 5625 metres from that bridge.

It looks my clue has been misconstrued. The location is about 5625 metres from a bridge which to me looked similar to the bridge in " An amazing view #3" by hhgygy. I never meant that it is the bridge in hhgygy post. To be more specific the location is about 5625 metres from a bridge which is of same type as the following bridge;

Well done Walter and hhgygy. hhgygy since you found two you can have one! I am surprised there have been only three answers so far. I thought after the second clue it will be easy. For others I am quoting from a post from ndrqu which he posted in An amazing view #3. .................... the bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge ................ The most famous of their kind is ........................
I am sure his tip in that post will make this puzzle easier!

Reviving this old one as only 4 correct answers were posted so far. It is not easy to make a clue for this so here is my final clue; The subject title in French can lead to answer unfortunately neither Google nor Babel Fish Translations are giving right answer; The actual title is "Croix Potencée" when I use Google to translate in to English it gives me the translation as "Cross Potent" but when I do reverse translation it gives me "Croix Potent". Babel Fish translates "Cross Potent" as "Croix puissant" in French. Perhaps johnluke who is closest to it can explain.

I've completely forgotten about the bridges now, not sure near which bridge it is we're supposed to look. And the French words in Google only show lots of those crosses, but not answer to your puzzle... I don't know what you want me to explain? Except don't use software to translate technical terms. It will work one time in ten... I had never heard the term in French before ("potencée"). It's new to me. And if I don't know it, Google Translate and Babelfish won't know it.

I had finally figured out it was that bridge, and had looked for the cross using the "5625 metres from the bridge" clue, bu I didn't find it, or maybe I did and saved it for later and never got back to it! I finally saw the image of the cross, but not within the first 30 images! Look for yourself. And the page there is no clue to the exact spot...

C'mon JL I will not argue with you on numbers I concede I was wrong it is within 33! (In my search (google.com) it was coming within 30 and in your search (google.fr) it is coming at #33. A difference mere 3 ). I am however surprised that you still cannot find it? It is a Panoramio image which gives the exact coordinates of the cross.

Believe me, when I say it's not within the first 30 images, it's not in the first 30 images, or even 33. I wouldn't even have argued if it was in the first 50. As it turns out, it is exactly the 100th image in the search. I counted! Here is the screenshot: Be careful counting, some images contain more than one image. So that an image containing three pictures is counted as one, not three (otherwise it wouldn't be the 100th image, but the 200th at least!). I'll rub it in by saying that the image found doesn't have coords or a usable address (except "col du renard" which leads nowhere), so I had to google again with the name of the village added to find one that had the name of the road. I don't know how you all found it except with long hours of searching the area...

johnluke actually it took a few minutes for me and no Google involved. I just went to the correct bridge on the first try, because it's the most famous of that kind. Then I drew a circle with 5625 meters radius from it, and just streetviewed two or three possible streets and found the cross... the vegatation around told me I were searching around the correct bridge.

I don't know how to draw a circle in GE that doesn't blank out everything in its stride. And whenever there are distances involved, I tend to give up, you never know what directions to go. Especially here, there are roads and vegetation everywhere... which implies, as >I said, long searches. You were lucky.

The circles can be drawn with GE Pro, I just had to draw actually two of them, one on each end of the bridge, because that was probably from where he measured the distance. I don't see any luck in this... I just found the easy way to solve this, and you took the long the way around

Especially here, there are roads and vegetation everywhere... which implies, as >I said, long searches. You were lucky. I were absolutely nowhere near to be lucky. The circles can be drawn with GE Pro, I don't have GE Pro. I'm not that dedicated. The luck is in the fact that only three places were a match, among all those roads and trees that could have fitted. I didn't even try looking precisely because of that. Wrong. I did not solve this and spent less time than you on this, no doubt about it... The first time I went to the bridge, searched at 5kms from it in a random direction, didn't find it and moved on to other things. It's just that JM came back with it yesterday saying there were simple search words (French words), so I used those words in GI and told him no, there are no results in the first 30, and yes the 100th image is it, but it has no address. That's all there is to it. I took no long road, no short road, I took no road at all. But searching a 10 km wide circle is taking a longer road than googling for "Millau croix potencée" (which gives an immediate address), if you ask me.

So that an image containing three pictures is counted as one, not three (otherwise it wouldn't be the 100th image, but the 200th at least!). JL I had also counted it many times and had counted some grouped picture as a single image; The proof is shown below. It definitely looks that Google gave different results to us, though I had also used google.fr I'll rub it in by saying that the image found doesn't have coords or a usable address (except "col du renard" which leads nowhere), so I had to google again with the name of the village added to find one that had the name of the road. I don't know how you all found it except with long hours of searching the area... I will not rub it in but it looks you missed the panoramio link. Had you opened it you would have been taken to Panoramio page where you would have found the coordinates. Any way let's close this chapter now. I will be posting the answer separately.

Well done all. By now the result should be obvious but for purpose of records the Cross can be seen in this GSV It can also be seen in this Panoramio LinkAs per Panoramio page the photo was taken at; Montée Royale, 12100 Millau, France and the Monument is located at the Col du Renard and restored by the Scouts de France in 1989 and 2005.

I will not rub it in but it looks you missed the panoramio link. Had you opened it you would have been taken to Panoramio page where you would have found the coordinates. Any way let's close this chapter now. You're right, let's close it, but let me just add that I didn't miss the panoramio link: the photo of the cross in my search is not the panoramio one, it is from this website. It has no address or coords. When I tried the search with the word Panoramio (a technique I know but fail to remember to use most of the time!) I find it in the first results... In fact, the whole thing was quite easy when you know how: look up cross potent in wiki, find out it's a french thing, look at the french wiki page about it, google for the french words + panoramio: bingo, there's the cross with the name of the road. 2 minutes.
