On March 12, 1943 a B-17- F (#42-29532) was on a delivery flight from Salina, Kansas to a base in Florida, prior to assignment to Europe. It crashed at this location due to both weather and mechanical issues. All nine crew members were killed and this full -sized replica and park was constructed to memorialize them.
