When Google first introduced their Moon globe, it was rightly heralded. But since then there have been no major updates to global surface imagery even though various lunar orbiters like NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) and JAXA's KAGUYA (SELENE) have returned much better imagery. There has been an update of LRO imagery to the Apollo Mission sites to the point where you can actually see the landing stage of the spacecraft on the Moon, but that's about it. If you want to see better imagery of a particular area go to one of the above links. You can see the Apollo landing sites and some other areas also by checking the various Moon layers in the viewer.
The Google affiliated Google Earth Community has been archived - or it will be soon. But you can still browse those forums and look at their attachments. Link to Our Moon forum HERE.
