On 22 September, 2006, a mag-lev (magnetic levitation) train began a test/demonstration run carrying a group of employees and journalists. Only 300 meters from the station the train collided with a maintenance vehicle at the point marked. The train was capable of 450 kph but had only attained 162 kph when the collision occurred. Twenty three fatalities and 11 injuries resulted from the crash. A subsequent investigation determined the the accident resulted from 'human error'. Today a memorial stone recalls the tragedy.
