The Royal Military Chapel (AKA the 'Guards') was struck by a V1 flying bomb on Sunday morning June 18, 1944. The chapel was crowded and the resulting explosion killed 121 and injured 141. This empty shell is what remained of the chapel in 1945. It was rebuilt in the 1960's.
