ATLAS-I (Air Force Weapons Lab Transmission-Line Aircraft Simulator). This 175 meter in length by 36 meter in height platform was constructed entirely of wood. This was done to subject aircraft as large as a B-52 to electromagnetic pulses which might be encountered from a nearby nuclear explosion. The structure was wooden so as not to interfere with the magnetic pulse. The pulse originated in the Marx generator located at the south end of the structure. The facility was in operation from 1972 to 1991 when computers were able to simulate the scenario. Atlas Trestle -Worlds largest wooden struct....kmz (1.02 KB)
