Hi, checkout this location in China. China.kmz (784 B) Any ideas on what on earth (no pun intended) this is. Make sure you use the historical timelines to see how the buildings, tunnels etc have been added then demolished, looks like from the air. There are runways, and other very odd shaped ground markings. Also so many vehicle tracks. Don't forget to checkout the tunnels and weird long buildings. Love to hear theory's or facts.

They are military bunkers, make sure your GEC Layer is enabled. Someone already posted about it. HERE

Interesting, thanks for the layer help.
There is more to it that just that though. The fake runways are built up on poles and something definitely happened between 2/8/2013 and 5/11/2013 the main buildings, especially the brand new blue roofed on in the centre of the silver runway and the bunker off to the right were bombed. curious that none of the "runways" were bombed. only the apron as the end. Very interesting site.

Pan to the north 3-4 miles from Pugnot's original location and find what looks like a nuclear test site (note that this was here prior to 2005): Nuclear Test Site.kmz (727 B)

Similar funky grid found about 12 miles east of Pugnot's original location: Chinese Grid 3.kmz (706 B) Also note that similar 'chicken scratch' can be found in other deserts around the globe...

Pan a good 140 miles northwest and find this glowing pond, which is most likely some kind of salt production:

Back to the topic of glowing stuff, pan a good 150 miles east of Punot's original location and dial the image date back to around 2010 and see this glowing road: The Glow Road.kmz (721 B)

My apologies if none of these are actually new to GEC, however I am very curious to see if anybody has found anything similar either here or elsewhere...??

These are all interesting locations..Here is a way to check if someone has placemarked a location and there is a thread discussing it in the old GEC. Find the Layers section at the bottom left of the viewer screen. Then check Google Earth Community within the Gallery subsection. If an area has been discussed before you can find information on it. Not all answers are the right one, but you should get a good discussion by reading the whole thread.

Approximately 25 miles northwest of the glow road are these funky looking notches carved into the hillside: Interesting, but it may be an old mining project. Of more interest to me is the amazing amount of infrastructure China is building. Much of the money comes from the U.S. as we buy thing from China they make for us.

Back to the topic of glowing stuff, pan a good 150 miles east of Punot's original location and dial the image date back to around 2010 and see this glowing road: The color is just a poor choice of filters in the satellite imagery to depict road surfaces. Many satellites can capture imagery from infrared to ultraviolet. Google buys what is available when it needs to. Current imagery looks about right in color balance and there a nice new highway and railroad running parallel in this area.
