Even though I was helped a LOT, I spent so much time and effort on this that I feel I deserve to post my answer. I still don't know what the lying is and what it is about, but at this point I'm so exhausted I don't care anymore. 🤪 Last hard one of the day for me. Whew ! 🙃

I still don't know what the lying is and what it is about, It's called a lying tree because it is lying. Not in the sense not telling the truth, LoL

CLUE 1 {Spoiler}After Johnluke's comment, I tried something on google If you search for lying tree in Hungarian (=fekvő fa), you most probably won't find it. BUT If you search for lying <right kind of tree> (in Hungarian) then it is an instant find. So you only need to guess what kind of tree it is.

Well, I was way off base with this one. I thought "Lying" in the "News" had to be Russian propaganda. I searched every little reservoir and river in Ukraine. I would never have thought what you said in your Clue.

I still don't know what the lying is and what it is about, It's called a lying tree because it is lying. Not in the sense not telling the truth, LoL You lol, and you can, because you knew what the puzzle was about. But those who didn't, well, they have to guess. And when you use the word "lying" and "in the news" in the same puzzle, the first thing you think of is people in the news who have been caught lying. There are TONS of such news because apparently people lie a lot. Who'd have thought ? There are absolutely NO news about lying trees, at least in english (or french) when searching news about lying. I didn't search the news for trees, because I didn't think this was about trees. I saw your comments yesterday evening but I saw there is a tree trunk lying in the picture only this morning! It's not that obvious that it is a tree trunk. The rest of the tree is standing too. If I'd seen it maybe I'd made the connexion. Maybe. I did search for lake in the news, hoping this was a lake (not even sure, in spite of the map you added). There are some news about dried up lakes in your country. And there are tons of lakes there! Now I know it... And btw, you never mentioned a country to begin with (fair enough), so for all I knew, this could be in Brazil, Japan, Finland or South Africa. I wasn't going to try all the languages one by one, no way. So all in all, a lot of unkowns, to say the least, and "not much to go on"... Oh, and when I now search lying trees (provided I know this is about trees) I get results showing people lying under trees, sometimes on them, in the branches. As always, when you already know the solution, it seems much easier. 😊 So I guess what I'm saying is, the only way to find this with no clue was brute forcing it: go on a hunch it was your country, and start looking for lakes that spread in a north south direction. And hope to be lucky, as that's a needle in a haystack search. I wasn't ! OK, move on to next puzzle now. Fingers crossed. 😁

The next clue will reveal why it is in the news, so not totally uninteresting.
