Strange Patterns, Qiqihar, Heilongjiang, China

Symmetrical patterns which are spread over a large area. It appears to be rural area and the patterns are probably some agricultural field, but why such design?

I guess: Harvested rice fields. The structure of the irrigation ditches becomes visible .
