Consonno was a medieval mountain village whose population (300 at most) had declined to about 60 when, in the early 1960's, Count Mario Bagno bought the entire site. In order to build his vision of a 'Vegas' type of resort he had the entire village demolished except the church and rectory. This 'party central' was popular with the Milan crowd in the late 1960's but a landslide (perhaps resulting from the Count's terraforming) in 1976 blocked access to the site. The resort became a ghost town and never recovered from this set-back An effort to transform it into a retirement facility also failed. sometimes-interesting.com/2013/07/10/count-bagnos-city-of-toys-consonno-italy/Consonno - City of Toys Ghost Town..kmz (2.14 KB)
