These extermination camps have been marked by several GEC members in the years 2005-2010.(See below). I felt that these posts deserved to be consolidated into one publication. Nazi Death Camps in Poland..kmz (2.11 KB) Thanks to: FabianARG, OuzoNico, Oldiebutgoldie, Jbx, Ostyde,ShuvmanLusmu..

Nice thought!
Until that layer existed GE was not a simple web map, but a virtual planet where real people have told their stories and shared their real, local informations with a global community and beyond.
Until that layer exists GE will have a personal overtone that we can consider ours.
And this is (was) something really great!
...
Thanks for the useful and somewhat familiar kmz indeed!

Nice post !
Sorry to inform you there is a label mistake on Treblinka camps :
T1 was the "forced labor camp" (southern camp)
T2 was the "extermination camp" (northern camp)

I was refering to the popup window text in GE which shows a description swap. Source : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treblinka_extermination_campTreblinka I was opened in sept 1941 as a forced-labour camp for the local population to work at the gravel pit. Treblinka II was opened in June 1942 as an extermination camp primarily used for the jews from the Warsaw ghetto.

Larry : as the French proverb says "only those who do nothing don't make mistakes"...maybe not only French though... To complete your initial post : "Nazi Death Camps" in Poland may be divided into several categories : 1 - Aktion Reinhard camps. These are pure extermination camps using carbon monoxyde gas chambers : - Belzec / building started oct.1941 / operation started march 1942 / closed spring 1943. Also called "the laboratory" as this was the place for many "experimentations". - Sobibor - building started march 1942 / operation started may 1942 / closed 14 oct. 1943 after the uprising. - Treblinka - building started april 1942 / operation started july 1942 / closed oct. 1943 after the uprising. 2 - Other pure extermination camp using gas vans : - Chelmno - operation started december 1941 / closed january 1945. 3 - "Hybrid camps" : firstly concentration/forced work camps then concentration / extermination camps using ZyclonB gas chambers. - Auschwitz–Birkenau - mass gassing started march 1942 until november 1944. - Majdanek - gassing started sept.oct. 1942 until fall 1943. - Stutthof - gassing started june 1944 until fall 1944. Although historians do not include it in the six extermination camps in Poland, it was added to "Die Endlösung der Judenfrage" policy near the end of the war.

jbx - thanx again for the correction. I did indeed make an error (not for the first time!) The posting should be correct now. Sorry to inform you that although the popup texts are correct in accordance with the markers text, there is a mistake with the markers locations : - Treblinka I is the southern camp - Treblinka II is the northern camp IMHO Treblinka I should not be included in the marker set because it was not a death camp for jews but "only" a forced labor camp mainly intended for the poles.
