Another one due an answer! A little googling will disclose the location of Richard Bright's blue plaque* as 11, Savile Row, London, the famous centre of London bespoke tailoring. In real life the shop is occupied by Huntsman tailors, but was used as the setting for Kingsman tailors in the film "Kingsman - the Secret Service" and is the London Headquarters for the Kingsman Agency. Harry Hart (played by Colin Firth) is a leading character in the film and a little more googling will take you to his house - his domicile - in Stanhope Mews in London SW7. It's the one facing you at the far end. Several of you went slightly astray and ended up at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire, the ancestral home of Admiral John Byng**, which is also used in the film as the country training centre for Kingsman agents. Well done to all who made the connection. If you haven't seen the film, then I'd urge to to do so - lots of big names and lots of spoof spy action! *You'll see lots of blue plaques in the UK, on house walls in almost every town; they commemorate the fact that someone famous - or at least noteworthy - once lived there. ** Admiral John Byng was an English naval officer executed for cowardice after the Battle of Minorca during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1757, a disgraceful episode in which Byng was made a scapegoat for the mistakes of the British Admiralty. Voltaire referred to the episode in his novel Candide: " Dans ce pays-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres." Story here |
