Man describes the moment his grandchildren hid in a coat closet during Colorado supermarket shooting

Steven McCue​ described to US media the moment his two granddaughters hid in a coat closet for safety during the shooting at King Soopers supermarket in Boulder on Tuesday (NZ time).



Speaking to television station KUSA, McCue said his granddaughters, aged about 13 and 14, had been at the shopping centre with their father, who was getting his Covid-19 vaccination at the pharmacy, when the shooting began.



“There was shooting, and he [his son-in-law] saw it and got the girls down. They ran and hid upstairs in a coat closet for an hour in the coats. They were communicating with my daughter through his phone, texting.”

Just saw it on the news; pretty shocking.  Most of the original mods in the GEC, both old and new, have visited Boulder twice; there's a large Google office there.  It's small city to the northeast of Denver, a university city, so a fairly young population.  Happy memories of drinking with friends in many bars in Boulder and it felt like one of the most unthreatening cities in the world.

Hi Frank, thanks for thinking about us. It's totally horrific, and I was almost at that store around that time, but had a meeting, so I skipped it. We're just up the road, so it's shaken us up a bit.



It's just crazy how this American culture is focused on weapons. I don't know what it takes to make gun laws, and get rid of these things.


I should also say that Dusty is fine. He's visiting family on Salt Lake City this week, with his kids.
