The 'Monument House of the Bulgarian Communist Party'. aka Budludzha Monument. Built in 1981 to commemorate the Socialist roots of the Bulgarian Communist party. Design is futuristic communist architecture. Maintenance ended in 1989 when the Soviet Union collapsed. It is now closed due to unsafe conditions - one can clearly see the deteriorated roof. The building contains interesting mosaics and some effort is being made to restore them. The Wiki article contains excellent photos Buzludzha Monument.kmz (1000 B)

I have grown up in a soft-communist state of Hungary and I have good memories of monumental and futuristic "socialist-realist" buildings. As child of quite a poor family it was really an attractive utopia, that with learning and sporting you can easily reach the skies... But alas! - All infant dreams was fake, nothing (majestic) we could reach, however still I feel sorrow to see devastating these monumental products of talented engineers and diligent worker hands... What a pity, all we were betrayed! - The most sad, I do not think there is any difference these days, BTW... *** Great spotting Larry! No blue "i", but great shots by GE Photo layer: Thanks for this novelty around GEC forums!
