On March 11, 1958, the crew of a U.S.A.F. B-47 accidently dropped a nuclear bomb on Mars Bluff, South Carolina. The Mark 6 weapon impacted behind the house of Walter Gregg where the conventional explosives created a 23 meter wide by 8 meter deep crater, still visible today. The house was destroyed and Gregg and his family received minor injuries. No radioactivity was released. (Sometime after 2013 the house was replaced).
