Having just posted the aircraft hunting collection, it seems right to also post my ship hunting collection, which I use mostly for my "Biggest Ship" collection and when searching for naval ships. This collection is meant to help you find ships in Google Earth and Google Street View by knowing where to look. Not everything is super accurate, as its meant for finding things and not to be a 100% accurate, informative collection. There's ~950 placemarks in the collection, so its pretty comprehensive! I hope this is helpful for y'all in finding ships! Have fun!
The collection is split into the following folders:
• Naval Bases includes bases for naval ships, submarines, and support craft.
• Container Ports is a list of busiest container ports, split up by region of the world. Also contains a Container Ship Size Reference, which you can use as a reference to ID container ship classes.
• Cruise Ship Ports is a list of cruise ship ports frequented by large cruise ships, split up by region of the world. I've excluded ports that only small cruise ships (less than 900 ft/274m) visit, as there's way too many of these.
• Ship-building Yards is a list of ship manufacturing facilities around the world. The collection contains just facilities that build ships, not those that only repair ships. Includes shipyards that build container ships, cruise ships, superyachts, and navy ships.
• Ship Graveyards contains a list of storage areas for derelict or old ships. I chose not to include the majority of the ship graveyards around the world, as they're mostly shipwrecks, and these are covered in other collections.
