Deadliest shipwreck of 2020

At least 140 migrants have drowned off Senegal in the deadliest shipwreck recorded this year, the United Nations migration agency said... 

[T]he boat was bound for Spain's Canary Islands but caught fire a few hours after departing Mbour, a coastal town in western Senegal, before capsizing near Saint-Louis, on the country's northwest coast.

There were about 200 aboard. The vessel had departed from Mbour, south of Dakar. It caught fire a few hours later, then capsized off the coast of Sant-Louis. Looking at the distance on GE, it was on fire for a long time before finally sinking and makes one wonder how many people jumped ship before that to try saving themselves. The Senegalese and Spanish navies were able to rescue only 59 people and recovered 20 bodies. This follows four immigrant shipwrecks the week before in the Mediterranean and one in the English Channel. The hope for a better life continues to take a terrible toll.
