Bad Orb camp has an extensive and interesting history. It started as a WW1 military training camp. In the 1920's it became a children's camp and, during WW2 it held 25,000 P.O.W.s under very difficult conditions, especially for the Soviet inmates. It was at this camp that, in 1945, Jewish prisoners (including prisoners 'who looked Jewish') were segregated and sent to Berga labour camp where they dug tunnels for an subterranean ammunition factory. This, of course, violated international treaties. The camp was liberated by an Allied taskforce on 2 April, 1945. Post WW2 the camp held refugees and finally reverted to its original purpose as a Children's camp. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalag_IX-BBad Orb Camp IX B.kmz (1.13 KB)
