The H.A.R.P. (High Altitude Research Program) gun was a joint venture between the U.S Department of Defence and the Canadian Department of National Defence. Its area of interest was ballistics and upper atmosphere data. Gerald Bull P.Eng. of McGill University (Montreal) headed the project. His background was ballistics and superguns and in 1961, under his direction, a 16 inch smoothbore gun was installed. It vertically fired test projectiles, in sabots, at 2164 m/s. An altitude of 180 km was reached. The project ran from 1963 to 1967 when funding dried up. (Time slider to 3/25/2020 for best view.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_HARPTerrible video but good pix of the gun then and now. H.A.R.P.supergun Barbados..kmz (1.24 KB)
