Mine are set using coordinates. I place and edit accordingly and save to My Places. I exit GE, open and find many of my Placemarks are gone.....

When closing GE, are you clicking on save or discard?

Many times it occurs that after staring GE I find kmz files in a state of an older save (update) as I have let them in My Places section.
So as a first rule: overwrite (save as/replace) your files frequently and use My Places panel only as a worksheet or better if you use it for nothing.
At least always be sure, your latest kmz versions are saved on your PC (and shared here on board) ! (;
Always keep it in mind(ispower)! (:
Welcome around!

When closing GE, are you clicking on save or discard? Mmmm. Not sure what you mean. Sorry. I always save to My Places. That is not good enough?

Setting placemarks using coordinates means: you enter coordinates in Search, add a placemark at this precise location, edit it (name it, so it will not show as ‘untitled placemark’, etc.) and click OK to save the placemark to My Places? It’s a mystery to me how placemarks could disappear from My Places using this procedure. One thing to notice is that, if you click on a folder name before saving the placemark, it will be placed in that particular folder. A Google search google earth placemarks disappear has many hits, by the way.

...It’s a mystery to me how placemarks could disappear from My Places using this procedure. ... Amongst the many things I do not understand about the operating of GE is right this. Sometimes, after opening GE I notice: Hey! Last night I have let this kmz folder with more placemarks within..!!? Then I open file from PC and, wait for it: that kmz folder contains placemarks up to the last, which one I have added partially felt asleep...(: To avoid hazards of such "file-backdates" or data loss, usually my procedure is by the followings: 1.) I open file from GEC forum post (these are for sure the latest updates) or from PC (ongoing kmz projects latest saves), 2.) I work on it (it is displayed in the 'Temporary Places') by frequent saves (overwrites) (to avoid data loss by crash or freeze) and 3.) after last save I switch GE off by NOT saving to 'My Places' (Discard). ... I use GE from the beginning, but with no higher skills in computer world still I cannot understand many things about how it works. For example how is that GE / GEC Layer still is operating, while all oGEC platforms have been erased...? Where data comes from then? From another server? Why was it necessary to annihilate immeasurable amount of data, ignoring thousands of hours of type-work provided by users if kmz database still let to be displayed? ... Sorry for the off-topic flaming!
