Proboards/GEC - GUESTS MUST LOGIN (!?)

Just have recently realised that there is no more access for guest visitors to our forum pages, not even to read posts...:




Why was it necessary?

Is it good... by any reasons?   

Sorry, this will be temporary. ET has been searching through threads and reporting posts to Proboards, so this is the only way to keep him out at this time. Will let you know when we get back to normal.

It seems to be good for a test. Testing, how much visitors like to browse GEC Forums. Besides I was very glad to see comment in 'Shoutbox' by new member, janikut:

'Hi to yall!! I love this style of forums and I'm amazed how much interesting stuff I find here when I'm bored. This site is amazing',

also it is good to see number of new registrations per day increasing since 'log-in obligation' has been introduced. (check this member list)

Does not that mean, some people who already were readers (or who just now got a link) of posts on this board now decided to join ...?

We have an increase of membership since, so seems to be ok, but when the "threat" is over I will lift it. My main concern is the safety of our members and their posts.

this "guest must login" is not a good idea imho

the french google earth board encounters the same situation
- some pages are visible only when you are logged in
- so "a lot" of people register, watch what they wanted to watch and
- they never come back (95% of them)

- so the administrators/moderators have more work, delete accounts

as far as i know, here at GE proboard you never delete such accounts...
