Some while ago, as I was browsing in Google Earth, I came across a site that I had once posted a placemark on in the old Google Earth Community. Rather than hunt up the placemark stored on my computer, I ticked on the GEC Layer. I was surprised (and DELIGHTED) to see the images I had hosted on my once free (but then super expensive) image hosting service were back.
I had spent a lot of time and effort to create KML content for Google Earth, and when that service, and the free file hosting service I had depended on to keep out-of-context content out of the Layer, both began charging fees far beyond the ability of a retired American teacher living in an expensive foreign country to afford, I experienced one of the greatest disappointments of my life.
With my images back, I set about to patch together the files I had once included in my Links file. Some required very little attention. Others needed quite a bit of rewriting to make them functional again. (There was a major setback when I discovered the "free" file hosting service I was using had some serious flaws. Fortunately, my nephew came to my rescue with some of his extra real estate on the cloud). I'm nearly finished with the first round of revision. The last page of the Links file is slow going. It mostly linked to discussions on technical issues posts on the now defunct old GEC, and recasting them to be of any use has required a lot of time. When I finish page 4, then (if the grim reaper has not yet cornered me) I intend to go back through the lot, checking for and fixing inessential busted links. In the mean while, here is a brand new piece stitched together Frankenstein-like, from bits of old posts. I am posting it here, because I can't think of any place else where anybody would find it even remotely useful, and because if anyone has any thoughts about how to make it clearer, I'd like to hear them.
