UPDATE: John Prine died on April 7th at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The following was written when he was admitted for treatment.
At age 73 and with a history of serious health problems, John Prine's symptoms came on quickly. His wife also tested positive and is recovering at home. He wrote beautiful, poignant songs, performing duets with country/folk stars like Bonnie Raitt. Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash have both been fans and named Prine as a big influence in their own songwriting. "In 2009, Bob Dylan told The Huffington Post that Prine was one of his favorite writers, stating "Prine's stuff is pure Proustian existentialism." [ Source] Take a listen. It's worth it.From the video's description: "Over the years, his voice has become gruffer and deeper, due in part to his battle with squamous cell cancer on the right side of his neck, all of which makes this song about memories slipping by feel all the more powerful and sad."
