This is not a bunker or missile base. This is a church.
The Saint-Pierre church in Firminy-Vert (F), designed by Le Corbusier in the early 1960s, was only completed more than forty years after his death and, with its exciting career, is a special case in architectural history. It was not until 1970, five years after Le Corbusier's death, that the foundation stone was laid. After some back and forth there was a construction stop in 1978, leaving a ruin open to the sky. It was not until March 2003 that a legally and financially viable solution was found, construction work resumed, and the building was completed in 2006.
It has been used for many different purposes, as a secondary school and as a shelter. As the secularist French state may not use public funds for religious buildings, Saint-Pierre is now used as a cultural venue.
