Another site with good resolution imagery only by BingMaps at the moment. 2 of the 3 groups: (total number of objects: cca. 50) Have a look around on BingMapsI do not think these are groups of animal. These are approx. 4-5 meters long objects - probably hidden military vehicle? ... Edit: these are 3 groups of camels - a big caravan taking a rest - read thread below! Recent sum of caravans: 3 sites (with BingMap links - no good resolution GE imagery) Camel Caravans.kmz (1.2 KB)

I do not think these are groups of animal. These are approx. 4-5 meters long objects - probably hidden military vehicle? I think it's animals. More specifically: camels. The wiki says: You reach a head trunk length of 225 to 345 centimeters, a shoulder height of 180 to 230 centimeters and a weight of 300 to 700 kilograms. Yandeks shows a small oasis on the spot. It will be a camel caravan, I suspect, they rest here.

Also my first thought was herd of animal -closer a camel caravan-, however the site made me think it over: -why just there? The place is close to a signed (road) path, close to greener areas, but these are just not there. "Clear" rectangular shapes by the uppermost group also seemed to confirm the vehicle concept... *** Resolution is far not the best -even by Bing-, however many of the shapes, distribution and color is about to convince me about that probably you are right, afterall! And do you know what then...? Then... Hey Man! Just have spotted a camel caravan on GE! (: Any other examples, anyone?! ((: ... Now I think to wait a while for someone else to come with a "ratification" reply, then I will edit post title to some "Caravan resting - Mauritania" and exclude this one from my " whaddaheck?list". (done) Thanks for response! G

"Clear" rectangular shapes by the uppermost group also seemed to confirm the vehicle concept... Why shouldn't vehicles also accompany the caravan? Why always ...

meanwhile have found another, smaller caravan heading to an ancient burial mound on BingMaps imagery: Caravan of 6 camels - obvious shadows in this case - just check the one at the bottom of the screenshot! - I edit post title right at this moment... ... (updated kmz attached to OP is only for GE reference point - no good resolution imagery on GE)

Camels. I've seen herds of other animals on the Sahara, too - cattle and goats. These don't have the look of anything military. Even hidden equipment is hidden in a more organized way. You'll see a lot of those near borders of N. African countries, easy to spot...no trees! The berms and revetments are often placed randomly to avoid having all of them bombed at once, but they are still the same sizes, shapes, quite uniform. Although "random," they are placed far apart, not close like your find. That would defeat the purpose of hiding them. Camels. Camels.

I think we've established...
beyond a reasonable doubt... that the verdict is...
CAMELS!
CAMELS!

Pretty sharp view of the most numerous camel caravan (145 camels) I have ever spotted (on Zoom.Earth imagery) I give coordinates for further map engine searches: >>17.251439, 9.160953<< other ZE link from the area with caravan sighting: # caravan of 14 camels Ending a placemark attached for a 90+ camels caravan nearby (acceptable GE imagery by these) 95 camels caravan Niger.kmz (777 B) GMaps link
