The Kohnen Station is a German polar research station in the Antarctic. It is named after Heinz Kohnen, who for a long time was head of the logistics department of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI). The station was built in 2001 on the Queen Maud Land (Norwegian: Dronning Maud Land) from the containers of the former Filchner station, which had to be rescued in 1999. It lies at 75 ° 00'S, 00 ° 04'O at 2892 meters altitude, about 757 km southeast of the Neumayer station. The Kohnen Station serves as a logistic basis for the ice drilling in Queen Maud Land of the European Project for Ice Coring in Antarctica (EPICA). It is a European deep drilling project to reconstruct the climate of the Antarctic Atlantic Ocean sector during the last hundreds of thousands of years.

Great thanks for the information. This information you provided should be posted out beyond this forum as there are quiet a few so called "Experts" saying otherwise.

... there are quiet a few so called "Experts" saying otherwise. then tell them to check GE layers before state anything! (: also basic advise for all newbies to this forum to check (desktop)GE layers before post anything! - until Google let them run, GEC- and Photo layers still can help a lot... cheers! g

If you open Google Earth, you will see a sidebar, go to Layers, then open the one that say's Gallery. In Gallery check the box Google Earth Community. This will produce little blue i 's , when you click on one it may show some info for that location. Unfortunately, any links will point to the Old community which Google removed so it's no longer possible to read. But they may give a clue to previous finds by old members. EDIT: Beaten by syzygy
