I have some really large KMZ files loaded up at all times and my program is struggling. My workstation has a lot of ram and i just wish I could dedicate more than 512Mb to the software. I run Linux Ubuntu 18.0.4 Bionic, so if you guys know any CLI tricks let me know!
Also are there any secret settings I might not know about to improve performance? Does anyone know if its possible to "download" google earth as well? By that I mean to basically keep a copy of the imagery data so its not constantly streaming from google servers?

The workaround solution to huge kml files is the use of the Region. But it will be a hard work since Regions should be organized from the very begining while creating the kml. The answer to your second question is your size of your GE's cache. Find it in the Tools>Options window and enjoy it. (But this may not be quick to respond to refresh the imagery when they are updated.)
