Automobil-Verkehrs- und Übungsstraße = AVUS 1921 - 1998. I have been associated with motor racing all of my adult life and so am very familiar with the name Avus. When I looked at it on Google Earth I was astonished by the size and shape of the circuit! Back in the day they certainly liked long straights. This track has a long and fascinating history of motor racing, including Fritz von Opel testing his rocket cars. In the 1930's Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union competed with their 'Silver Arrow' racing cars, videos of these races and of the rocket cars are often seen on the web. The track has a history of driver fatalities and was finally closed in 1998. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVUSAvus.kmz (1.94 KB)
