In late summer of 1944 the Germans were building further coastal defenses in Danmark. In this case a radar installation and two guns were to be installed at Sletterhage. This installation was designed to control Allied marine traffic in Aarhus bay where, it ws feared, the Allies could attack, from the rear, German defenders who were holding off an invasion of the coast due west of here. It should be remembered that at this stage of WW2 the Siegfried Line had been breached, Aachen was under attack and furthermore the Danish coast was over130 km away! At the same time 'BunkerTirpitz' protecting Esberg was being built. Neither project was completed partly because the Germans ran out of concrete. (Hard to imagine Organization Todt running out of cement!) This would seem to reveal both poor military planning and the effectiveness of Allied propoganda regarding a secondary landing after Normandy. A new coastal walk takes on past the remains of this project. Bunker Tirpitz 8.1722837859 Longitude 55.550363403 Latitude Some Last Minute Repairs to Cracks in the A....kmz (1.91 KB)
