On 43/10/27 the pilot of a Douglas B-23 (an obsolescent twin engine bomber) became disoriented and lost in a heavy snow storm. The crew saw Loon Lake and after one attempt made an emergency landing on the frozen lake. The aircraft skidded across the icy surface and ended up in the trees, completely wrecked. The eight man crew survived and three of them managed to walk out through the heavy snow to the Lake Ford Guard station. All were rescued.
