Peepal Farm in the north of India takes in street dogs and cats and any other abandoned or injured animal. There are quite a few animal rescue and shelter organizations in India, but not nearly enough to keep up with the stray and feral population. Spaying and neutering is not common, nor is education about it, with very negative consequences for both people and animals. "Worldwide, India has the highest rate of rabies in the world..." Dogs, primarily, pass it to humans, producing the highest rate of human rabies.
