chunks of ice (or bars of toughened snow if it were quite not the same) were fallen off the verge.

the smaller was already there in 2009, slightly visible in 2010 and in 2011; the bigger one, the "monolith" arrives.

water -after freeze- seems to love regular shapes; just think of perfect geometry of snow crystals, or:
