The thieves claiming to be workers have stolen a whole lead roof from a listed 14th-century church. The prey, which was taken 'for an extended period of time', amounts to 20 tons of lead from the Church of All Saints at Houghton Conquest, Bedfordshire, police said. The roof is not visible from the ground and the theft was discovered on October 2, 2018, when daylight was seen through the ceiling and debris was found on the ground.

Nicely done! some 23.000 euros on the non-ferrous metal market.
have to add, some clever action by local authorities also were needed.
