The Museu Nacional da Federal University of Rio de Janeiro went up in flames on the evening of 2 September 2018. According to press reports, the fire burned more than 20 million objects, including archaeological finds and other historical collections. It was one of the largest historical and scientific collections in the country, housed since 1898 in the St. Christopher's Palace, which until then was the seat of the Portuguese imperial family. As the cause of the fire you can see the poor technical condition of the museum, also worked fire extinguishing systems at the time not. Luckily, there were no personal injuries.
