Kanoya was an Imperial Japanese Navy Base which housed AM6 Zero fighters designated for 'Kamikazi' attacks. The placemark is on a reinforced condrete revetment for Kamikazi Zeros. PBS aired a program depicting this bunker; the front of the bunker has a low slot cut into it to admit the wings of the fighter. A taller slot allows the canopy and vertical stabilizer to enter. During the war there were dozens of these revetments at this base.
