The Intertie system on the US Pacific Coast consists of both AC and DC transmission lines. The AC line runs from John Day Dam to Lugo, California, near Los Angeles.
The DC lines run from the Celilo converter station, near The Dalles Dam, to Sylmar, California, also near Los Angeles. The Intertie was designed and built to exchange power between the north and south of this vast region. In the summer, energy flows from north to south to "feed" California's air conditioners. In winter, on the contrary, southern power plants help heat homes in Washington State. I hope, my work will be useful to those people who are interested in the details of the Pacific Intertie Project. see Pacific Intertie.kmz for details Grand Coulee Dam The Dalles Dam Columbia River (map) Pacific DC Intertie Los Angeles city (map)

Apart from the hard rock band AC/DC, alternating current or direct current was not an issue for me. Nevertheless, it is worth knowing and worth seeing. Thanks for the overview. Best regards, Pitter
