La Geria is a specially cultivated vineyard in the geographical center of the Canary Island of Lanzarote. Due to the decline of volcanic ash from the volcanic eruptions in the years 1730 to 1736, an area with mighty lapilli layers of 1 to 2.5 meters thickness developed here. To get back to fertile soil, funnel-shaped depressions were dug into the lapilla layer and placed at the bottom of each a single grapevine. The proven excellent, the wells protect against dehydration and violent winds. The New York City Museum of Modern Art declared this wine-growing area to be a total work of art in the 1960s. Here producing 5 million liters of wine each year. 28°58'25.73" N 13°42'56.97" W
