Solar updraft tower power plant (SUTPP)

The Wuhai solar wind power station is currently the only major solar wind turbine in operation in the world. Located near the Chinese city of Wuhai in a desert area of Inner Mongolia, the power plant has an installed capacity of 200 kW and went into operation on 10 December 2010. The plant was originally intended to be expanded to an area of 277 hectares and a total energy output of 27.5 MW by 2013. The chimney used for this plant was originally supposed to be 200 meters high, but due to its proximity to the Wuhai airport, only a 50-meter-high chimney could be built, which reduces efficiency.

China sinks in dirty air. This might be an alternative to conventional power plants and could help China get its air pollution under control. Thanks for this interesting information.

A small SUTPP for experimental purposes operates (or was in operation?) by the Italian energy company Enel S.p.A at San Giovanni Valdarno.

Unfortunately I could not find any further information.
