While going through my father-in-law's personal items recently I discovered this glossy B&W original photograph. He was a B-24 crew member stationed in Italy during WWII and he flew on 36 combat missions during the war. I am thinking that this photo was taken from his aircraft during a bombing run. It appears that their target was a railroad marshaling yard. Is there a way to find its location? Many thanks!

Welcome. The guys that play in the Fun and Games section will be the best shot at this.
I will post a link there for them.
Good luck

Interesting problem. What I found so far (to narrow the search) is that 12th and 15th Air Force (US), based around Foggia and other places in southern Italy, bombed the Po Valley north of Florence. There is a highly recognizable town centre and river pattern in this photo, but of course the orientation is unclear.

Wow, that is incredible! Thanks guys for all of your help. That is definitely the place. The soccer field is still there just to the left of the city center. My father-in-law was a radio operator / waist gunner on the B-24 with the 461st Bomb Group and he was based in Cerignola, Italy. With this information I was able to look at his log book entry for March 24, 1945 and, sure enough, I discovered that he did fly a mission that day with a flight duration of 7 hours, 35 minutes. Attached is a picture of his fellow crew members, my father-in-law is in the top row, far right. Thank you for helping me solve this mystery!
