Thick white stripe east of King William Island.kmz (733 B) Can anyone identify this thick white stripe in northern Canada? It's 15 km wide by roughly 95 km long, spanning the St. Roch Basin (a body of water) between King William Island and Boothia Peninsula in the Nunavut territory. The surface clearly appears to be ice, given its fissures, mottling, holes and ponds. But it has straight, parallel sides, so it must be of man-made origin. Is it some type of "ice bridge," either created artificially, or intentionally preserved when the surrounding ice was cleared? (If it's intended to be a functional ice bridge, however, why is it separated from King William Island by a narrow channel?) Or could it simply be a digital artifact? The only reason this feature caught my attention is its size. It remains clearly visible even when you zoom out to a full view of North America.

It looks like an error in the stitching of imagery, it's quite common.
