In 1940 Germany emplaced six of these 28 cm. railway guns in Northern France. This was done in order to harass shipping in the Channel and to bombard English coastal towns, presumably to assist in operation 'SeaLion'. In order to protect these weapons from aerial attack large concrete bunkers ('Dom' or cathedral bunkers) were constructed. Each 80 meter long bunker could accomodate two guns and a locomotive. The accompaning video mentions four of these structures, one of which may have been demolished. I have found three of the four. If anyone knows of the location or fate of the fourth please let me know. I have also included a reconstructed K5 situated at a museum just north of Haringzelles. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krupp_K5Krupp K5 Railway Guns in France 1940..kmz (2.09 KB)

Nice post, Larry! I've seen photos of that gun, but had no idea it was located in France. A unique, yet impractical, weapon.
