Photobucket has quietly introduced a $399 annual fee to users who have embedded images on third party websites.
Several member of this forum who were using Photobucket have been affected. Instead of pictures posted by us following notice is appearing.
All our hard work has been undone. It is almost impossible to track all the photos we have posted in this Forum as well as in other blogs etc. The images posted in Google Earth's GEC layers are also gone. Since GEC has been frozen those pictures now cannot be reposted. It is total loss.
Blocking already posted images by Photobucket is sort of extortion.
I request all who are affected to please sign the petition at Change.org urging Photobucket to reverse the decision.

Thank you for posting this link JM. I received an email about these changes, but Gmail sent it to spam, so I'd urge everyone to check their spam folder. The mail came not from a photobucket address but from "info at pbdeals dot com", and the link to "upgrade" was to a "pbdeals dot com" url, so I spent some time trying to work out if it was genuine. Sadly, as you have pointed out, it is genuine. I will sign, but I'm not optimistic that they will go back on this decision .

I will sign, but I'm not optimistic that they will go back on this decision . I also feel that PB will not change their decision but still feel everyone should sign so that at least they know that people are very unhappy with their revised policy. I seek suggestions from you and others about the best sites for future photo sharings. Google Photos have stumped me. Can't find any way find image url for inserting in third party sites. TinyPic is OK but sometimes gives trouble. How is Imgur? Earlier I was using Dropbox public folder for sharing photos and kml/kmz files but they have also stopped public sharing for free accounts. Lots of my posts in GEC/nGEC and in my Blogs now have broken links.

Hi JM, I've seen Imgur recommended, but I don't know anything about it. Tinypic is owned by Photobucket, you can see this in the copyright info at the bottom of the main page. For Dropbox I found this info a few years ago, but I haven't tried it again, so no idea if it is still valid. For Google Photos I'd recommend using Josh258's GETeach site. He explains it here. There's also this information, I haven't looked at it in detail, but I think it just explains how to manually do what Josh's tool does for you. This is what Google has to say about storage quotas. Like everything else I imagine this could be changed in the future.

Many many thanks Noisette for the info. It has solved my problems. I have checked the workarounds given for sharing images from Dropbox public folder as well from Google Photos and both work very well.

Signed! I, too, got the notice and was furious that they are holding our photos hostage, like they're a bunch of gangsters. I thought it was amazingly heartless to do it without warning. The $39/mo. fee is ridiculous for many of us and they are probably just wanting to transition to the professional photogs who are willing to pay a lot - although they've got loads of much better competition if that's where they are going. It's nice to see there are workarounds, but older posts on GEC or three other forums I use will never be repaired. I tried emailing P-bucket directly to protest, but just got a form letter acknowledging receipt. Bye-bye Photobucket!
