I believe its a Russian Jet flying over the island of Big Diomede since it is owned by Russia, but it looks like some sort of fighter jet. This island was used in WW2 as a base so this very well could be military, guard or recon. Check it out at 65°46'41.7"N 169°03'57.3"W

hi and welcome! good find, however (1) clearly can be seen it is on the ground. if you check historical imagery with use of GE Time Slider (the little clock with the green arrow on GE header panel) it turns out, it was already been there in 2007. (I bet it is there since WWII, however we need some more expertise in identification) *I might have lost the bet... check bottom of posting! -it is wreck of a Lisunov Li-2 of Soviet Air Force, but...(2) relevant photo layer content available for the wreck at: 65°46'48.90"N, 169° 4'46.52"W (check Layers/Photos on the left side panel of GE) photo by Eugeniy Parshutkin on panoramio.comso besides taking advice of TheLedge, take also mine: never forget to turn on some GE Layers and/or check time slider before posting! keep up the good work! best, g *...just have found some more details and photos on rutraveller.ru:

Very cool, thanks for the research... Your very welcome! One of the many cool things around GE (any version) that it is great fun for all who participated in a "find" by sharing it for example through a forum thread like this. ...i have no clue what the GE Time Slider and Layers were or even are. Is this on the desktop version because I cant find it on the browser version? Sorry I always forget that someone might use other tools to browse any other interface versions of the GE globe than the good old desktop GE on their PCs. Around here on GEC forum I think you have to mean desktop GE as default. (not GMaps, browser version GE, GE for Chrome, Web based GE, new GE, etc.) Best and see you! g

Correct with the ID - it is indeed a Lisunov Li-2. This is a version of the good old Douglas DC3/C47 Dakota built under licence in Russia and Uzbekistan before and during WW2. Image courtesy of the Goleta Air and Space MuseumWiki Info
For the OP, there are a couple of things you can do to help in ID'ing your aircraft. The first thing is to measure it. You do this using the Ruler Tool on the button bar at the top of the GE Viewer window (Talking about the proper PV version of GE here!), which shows that it has a wingspan of around 95 feet and a length of around 65 feet, making it much too big for, say a fighter. I've also added an overlay of the Lisounov Li-2. You can download this and go into its properties and vary the amount of transparency to see how it fits the aircraft in the GE image. Pretty much a perfect match, even although it looks as if the engines and some of the control surfaces have been robbed from the wrecked aircraft. Cheers, Frank

..my dates are from an earlier date... ...shame on you lakiger32 for no mention and accepted credit for my find... has already been reflected by me in THIS thread (closed by now): also you said other things which have been reflected in the linked thread. for example: not true, or what about rutraveller.ru source then?: ... hope lakiger32* will return some day to tell his own story anyway! ... Discoveries should not to be eaten so hot!... *HEY! -just have realised: lakiger32 vs coltsforever32 - it seems you 32-ers have better chance to find plane wrecks on GE imagery than others...(:
