I've already posted a number of Metasequois on Street View, here are 3 more. The species is unique in that it was only discovered in Central China in 1941 and seeds first distributed around the world in 1948. In addition to those listed here are others not visible from the street, such as the large individual at Central Park in San Mateo. There is one tall one at Sequoia High and another at neably Burton Park, in Redwood City.

There is one on Canfield Court, Stanford University. Luckily, there is a "walking SV" view of it. I'm not good at recognizing them unless I see them close up. Is it the tree just right of my placemark? If not, I'll update my file. The rest seem to be spruces and other evergreens. Metasequoia Stanford.kmz (845 B)

Diane, i cant judge from the image. Metasequoia has a pinkish bark and trunk. Up close the individual may display unusual interations for a tree. If the needle like leaflets are set opposite on the branchlets, its a Metasequoia; if the needles are alternate, its a Taxodium. Perhaps you can ask the lead botanist.

I used to live there, but no longer. That must be where I saw the one I was thinking of in the first place, but didn't find in a search! I only knew that somewhere in P.A.... Anyway, here is the photo I found for Stanford that lead me to the SV. I can't quite orient myself to the right view... Right, where's that head botanist? From Trees of Stanford

This appears to be a coast redwood, or a giant sequoia, or some other kind of cypress but its NOT a Metasequoia. Planted in 1948, from the original seed stock collected and sent worldwide from Central China.
