VIEW IN EARTH MODE_ 7 Overlays
The following topics are displayed in Overlays and described in overviews:
Venus in Visible Light
… covered with a dense carbon dioxide atmosphere. Only radar imaging has penetrated this atmosphere to reveal the strange surface features of Venus.
Full Globe Overlay_Venus.
Statistics
Similar to Earth in size….
The atmospheric pressure at the planet's surface is 90 times that of the Earth; Equal to ½ mile under water.
The surface temperature of Venus is over 900 to 1000 degrees F.
Venus orbits the sun every 224.7 Earth days, about 71/2 months. Venus has a longer day than year.
Atmosphere and Climate
Without greenhouse gasses the temperature at the surface of Venus would be quite similar to that on Earth.
The atmospheric pressure on Venus is estimated at 1,323 pounds per square inch, compared with about 14.7 pounds per square inch on Earth.
Venus Interior
…. information about the internal structure and geochemistry of Venus…. over a period of about 100 million years, subduction occurs on an enormous scale, completely recycling the crust.
Geography
…. Although it is exciting to imagine the entire crust of Venus sinking into the mantle, it is probably more reasonable to discuss massive lava flows lasting thousands to millions of years.
Venus has a variety of surface features, including ….
more volcanoes on Venus than on any other planet in the Solar System.
Image: A portion of western Eistla Regio is displayed in this three-dimensional perspective view of the surface of Venus. The viewpoint is at an elevation of ½ mile located 812 miles southwest of 1.86 mile high volcano Gula Mons….
Terraforming Venus Not Likely
Due to… would require many orders of magnitude of energy. And then there is the matter of….
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the improbability of any human landing on Venus, or terraforming it, Planetary Science is clearly the major focus and goal of Venus satellite studies, and any idea of terraforming is strictly imagination or fiction. Any realistic future capabilities for terraforming will be applied to Mars.
